Choose one of the correct answer !

Television is the most important source of entertainment for a great number of people all over the world. Once considered as a wild dream of imaginative scientists, television today plays an important part of daily life. It is not only a major source of entertainment, but it is also a major source of news, information and industry. Television makes it possible to show a lesson, given in one small classroom, to thousands of people, especially students.

Television cameras in satellites provide pictures of the earth’s cloud cover, while space probes send close-up pictures and other people may be watching it at the same time. Some of these people may be in your own community, some may be in towns and cities in other provinces, and some may even be in other countries, now that satellites in space 22,000 miles above the equators transmit pictures, words, and music across the world’s oceans.

Television has a great influence on our ideas about what is right and wrong, about the way we should behave, and about life in general. Sometimes the values and life styles that we get from television are in conflict with those that are taught at home, school, or places of warship. Critics of television point out that crime and Western programmes often appeal to a taste for violence, while many game shows appeal to greed. Teenagers often imitate the way of life of bad Western coboys in a film. They seem to take a great pleasure in disturbing the peace in the community. Many critics also believe that television should be used for socially constructive purposes as well as for entertainment.

Today people all over the world can see how other people look and live. Foreign cultures and institutions can be learnt directly rather than merely reported. In less than 50 years, television has developed into a worldwide communication tool with infinite uses.
